WAVES ARE BEING MADE DOWN SOUTH AT THE CAPE OF STORMS MONOHULL SAILING WILL NEVER BE THE SAME AGAIN... |
In 2014 Keith Cronwright (the 'dream-upper' of these concepts) was invited to participate in the Cape to Rio Yacht Race. His knowledge of sailing confined to Hobie Cats. Keel boat sailing was totally unchartered waters for him. He was intrigued by the plethora of above-water (hull) technologies and gizmos found on a keel boat relative to the paucity of such devices on a dinghy. He found it strange that after centuries the 'adjustables' below water had virtually not changed. Vessel's keel during over this period remained just a 'blob' of a heavy material. Keith began researching the subject (Google!) wherein he discovered that canting keels (hydraulic) had been around for just over a decade. Research further informed him that keels powered by hydraulics were associated with "problems". This got him thinking.
